Fall Findings

Today Beckie and I took our friend Floozie to see the beauty of our neck of the woods. These pictures were taken in Bridgewater and Dayton.....a quaint little town with a large population of old order Mennonites.

I loved this picture of clothes hanging on the clothes line outside to dry. What can be more home spun and wholesome? It turned out to be a beautiful Fall Day just right for laughing, talking and exploring.

One of the local roadside attractions is the horse and wagon demonstrating early toll roads in Virginia. If the horse seems rather docile and cooperative it's because he is made of plastic. You got to admit it makes for a really good photo op! The back of the wagon is filled with the bounty of fall (pumpkins, mums, colorful goards and hay for the horse of course!)

I've driven by this traffic sign for the last three years and every time I tell myself I really should take a picture of it. So today was the day. Not only did we get a picture of the road sign but we also saw a horse and buggy tied up at the hitching post at the Farmer's Market.

As you can see our friend Flip Flop Floozie had a great time exploring the some of the beauty of the Shenandoah Valley. She loved the trees changing colors and I think that smile tells it all. It was a really fun day seeing your city from new eyes .

We are all so very excited about our lovely ladies laughing luncheon coming up. More later today!

Fall Follage

This is my very favorite scene on my drive to work. As you can see the leaves in the Blue Ridge Mountains are changing colors. This scene changes every season. It reminds me of a Charles Wysocki painting. It never fails to take my breath away!

Welcome to my Part of the World.....meet my neighbors

Yes, in the country we boogie till the cows come home !

It's raining leaves....everywhere!

Friday's Fall Follage and Farmer's Market

What could be better than a fall day in Staunton, Va? My friend Beckie and I went looking for color and found plenty of it down town and at the local Farmer's Market.

Pumpkins, squash and ornamental cabbages!

Thursday Thirteen...Fall

Thirteen Things Daisy loves about Fall

1. I love the leaves and the breath taking colors of the landscape. Since I live in the Shenadoah Valley all I have to do to see this glorious sight is step on to my front porch!

2. I love the cool, crisp weather. I love the light frost on the grass in the morning and temperatures in the 70's during the day.

3. I love sleeping under a home made quilt at night. I love cuddling up to my nice warm mister warming my ice cold feet on his legs. He always grumbles but he embraces me even in his sleep.

4. I love pumpkin everything. I love pumpkins, hay bales, corn stalks and all the earthy decorations that go with fall.

5. I love apple everything. Winchester, Virginia is a stone's throw down the road and claims to be the apple capital. I love applesauce, apple pie, apple salad, and apples with carmel sauce dip.

6. I love Thanksgiving and the concept of family gatherings to celebrate one another and to thank God for the bounty of the fall harvest. I love breaking out the pinecone turkeys, pilgrim face place mats, and Pilgrims, Indians, and Turkey centerpeices .

7. I love mums, yellow, bronze, crimson, purple and white. I love the small compact burst of color and my very favorite mum is of course (the daisy mum).

8. I love the smell and taste of chilli on a cool evening to warm you down to the tips of your toes. Throw in some home made corn bread and you've got some good eatin!

9. I love the smell of a wood burning stove and the nice glow of heat that comes out of the vents on a cold morning. We heat the house with wood and since chopping and splitting it, I appreciate it's warmth much more.

10. Scarecrows. I think it's because I secretly had a crush on the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz. I think they make cute fall decorations and look comical and inviting .

11. I love haybales, hayrides, and dried cornstalks for fall decorations.

12. I love the "pumpkin chunkin" contest they hold every year. The Discovery Channel usually films it. The also have pumpkin cannons.

13. I love spiced hot tea and hot apple cider. They smell wonderful and taste even better on a chilly evening.
