Charlie among the lillies

Have you ever noticed how one bad attitude can ruin a whole event that you've been looking forward to for several years? Well here is a picture of one bad attitude about to raise its ugly head in a place of great beauty.

You got it....the Dayliilie and Wine Festival!

The day started out well. Sleeping late ( ok, a little later than normal). Charlie was able to mow the grass and the laundry was well on the way to be finished. The Nest was dusted, vacumned and the clutter spots put away. I made a really nice lunch and we were on our way to the festival.

The place was crowded! (to me, a good sign that it was worth attending!) Big Red Flag to the Mister. ( For a man that was on staff of large church for years you would think he would be used to crowds. ) We parked in the field with the rest of the cars and began the trek to the gardens. It was a pretty hot humid day and we had a pretty good hike to get to the gardens. As we were tiptoeing through the cow patties I began to notice that his enthusiasm had really begun to wane.....(wane, nothing it was totally gone!)

By the time we arrived at the top of the hill, and saw the hundreds of blooms I was breathless!

Mainly from the climb up the hill but also because the field of beautiful blossoms and all the striking colors and hues. I was excited enough for the both of us.

Or so I thought.....it doesn't take long dragging a reluctant man through gardens till you begin to think maybe he's not enjoying this. I stationed him next to a beautiful bed of vibrant lilles to take his picture. That's when it hit me! There was a great contrast in the picture and not just him in blue and the lillies in yellow. It was a look that only 32 year of marriage can fully understand. The look that silently said, "Just kill me now and get it over with! I'd rather be pushing up lillies than look at one more of them!"

The day was shot for me then and there.

The lillie lights went out and I pulled the plug on the event.

As we began the long trek back to the car avoiding the cow pies on the way he begins to think something must be wrong! (Who said men are clueless?)

"What's wrong?," he says.

"Why are we going home?"

When I tell him that his attitude is showing he is shocked that I noticed.

"I didn't say anything," he says defensively.

"You didn't have to," I say.

"I was prepared to gut it out for your sake," he says.

Ah, true love....it rained shortly after we got to the car.

But my heart had already been dreached and my spirit dampened!

Next time I'll go with the girls!
