Friends versus Southern Friends

I was born in the South and lived most of my life in the South. I'm proud of my southern roots and firmly believe that southern graciousness is a gift that everyone should strive for.

My sister sent me an email this morning on the difference between friends and southern friends. I thought it was cute so would pass it along to all my southern friends (your geography doesn't make you Southern....it's your heart attitude).

friends vs. Southern friends

friends: Never ask for food.
Southern friends: Always bring the food ... and lots of it.

friends: Will say "hello."
Southern friends: Will give you a big hug and a kiss.

friends: Call your parents Mr. and Mrs.
Southern friends: Call your parents Mom and Dad.

friends: Have never seen you cry.
Southern friends: Cry with you and for you.

friends: Will eat at your dinner table and leave.
Southern friends: Will spend hours there talking, laughing and just being with you, then do the dishes before leaving.

friends: Know a few things about you.
Southern friends: Could write a book with direct quotes from you, and know you better than you do yourself.

friends: Will leave you behind if that's what the crowd is doing.
Southern friends: Will kick the whole crowds' back-ends that left you, then walk beside you in the front of the crowd.

friends: Would knock on your door.
Southern friends: Walk right in and say, "I'm home!" If you are not home, they will wait.

friends: Are for awhile.
Southern friends: Are for life.

My hubby's family lives in the south. When I first met them I was surprised at the respect all the children gave to the adults with their yes Mam, yes Sir, and calling the ladies Miss Daisy, Miss Linda, and at the moment I can't remember how they address the men. They have true southern hospitality.

That was great! My Mom was from Southern Indiana !! Almost KY. Does that count!! and all my Aunts were like Southern ladies!!My Mom was born in 1903 and the Aunts in the 1890's so that might have had something to do with it!!

I was born and raised in Miami, Florida. I know that Florida is not "officially" called the South, but it's at far South as you can get in the states. :o) So we have a "southern hospitality" with a flare. :o)

Great list! Hope you have a blessed Thursday!
