Where's my diamond?

You probably remember how much I dread going to the dentist. My last visit was for a crown and I breathed a sigh of relief that I was free of appointments until September. Alas that was not to be!

Sunday night I woke up with extreme pain from the very tooth that I had crowned just a few weeks before. I had a fitful night and maybe managed two hours of sleep . Monday morning I was back at my regular dentist who worked me in and was told that I had an abscess in the tooth and was put on antibiotics. To make matters more complicated, I had to choose to either pull the tooth or have a root canal . The x-ray of the tooth revealed a root system with a curve instead of the traditional straight root so my dentist referred me to an endodontist ( dentist who specializes in root canals).

As you might suspect, being referred to a specialist means that it will be pricey ($875). Bear in mind gentle reader, I had already invested ($800) in my non-diamond encrusted crown for this same tooth. I like my tooth and want to keep it but honestly ($1675) is a lot to invest in one tooth. Did I mention that I have an insurmountable fear of dental procedures?

I now have a new appreciation for people who say, "I'd rather have a root canal than ....(you fill in the blank)." Mr. Wonderful took me to my appointment (I think he was afraid I wouldn't go) and waited for me for the hour and a half it took to complete.

I would love to tell you that it was "no problem" but I will think twice about ever going through this again. The dentist was very professional and the procedure went well and he was very pleased with the x-ray that it was just exactly what he wanted to see.

I still have to go back to my regular dentist to put in a permanent filling in my not so new, not so shiny, not even diamond encrusted crown . Sigh, more shooting pains to the wallet.

You can bet this girl is brushing , flossing, dental demon.

Ohhhhhh dear! I am sO sorry! You're a FAR better woman than I though... I'd have definitely had them YANK it! Of course, that could be why I have no teeth... Well... that and because I have bad GUMS! However... with only 12 teeth left... I can pretty much GUARANTEE there will be NO root canals in MY future! What's one less???
