New Eyes

February has been a busy month for me with two surgeries.  On February 5th I had my first cataract surgery on my left eye.  I of course was very nervous even though I knew my prayer warriors were working overtime to keep me "prayed up" as well as my surgeon.

We arrived at the surgical center at 2:30 and waited in the waiting room for about a half an hour before they came and got me.  I had to get totally undressed and into a patient gown and blue scrub hat.  I took out my hearing aids, so it was a little difficult to hear what was going on.

I was given a series of eye drops in my left eye to dilate it at 5-minute intervals.  I talked with the anesthesia people about allergies and told them that I was pretty nervous.  They assured me that they could give me a mild sedative in my IV that would help with the nerves but not interfere with the surgery.

Finally, my very cute and very young-looking doctor came in to talk with me.  He looked about 16 years old (like Oscar) but he assured me he was 35, married with kids and had done this surgery many times.  I asked if I could pray for him, and he held my hand and readily agreed.  He was very kind and thoughtful and thanked me afterwards.   Knowing that I have many praying friends and some IV medicinal courage we got through the first eye surgery of my life.

Charlie, drove me home, and during recovery I had a ginger ale and peanut butter crackers.  Poppa has been through this surgery twice, so he has been a great source of knowledge and aides me by putting in my eye drops three times a day.

I had several follow up visits with my eye doctor (Doctor Tammy) and everything is looking good.

Two weeks later we did the second eye at the same surgical center this time we had snow flurries, clear roads but Poppa forgot his phone with the address of the surgical center, so we were lost for about 15 minutes till we got directions (we weren't very far from where we needed to be) but it caused a lot of emotional distress and frustration before we ever arrived to be admitted.

This surgery also went off easily and we were home by noon.   I had special lenses inserted in each eye so now I don't have to wear glasses anymore.  It really is like having new eyes!

Everything is brighter and clearer.  I feel like I can see a mile down the road.  Recovery has been easy and now we continue with the eye drops only in my right eye.  I do have to have reading glasses to read but I own about 6 pair (one for every room I go in.)

What a wonderful gift to be able to see clearly.  Thank you, Jesus!  I do kind of feel like a superhero granny.
