Oh Yeah, same to ya!

Ok, I admit it. When it comes to computers I have to refer to "The Idiots Guide to Computers" or else pick up the telephone and call one of my kids. I know how to turn it on, post pictures, cut and paste, an look on the internet.

I was some what taken by surprise when my computer informed me that "my memory was too low!".

"Oh yeah, same to ya!" was my first impression at being insulted by a machine.

" I'll have you know that my memory is just fine thank you. Besides what I don't remember I embellish for the sake of the story," I retorted . Mark Twain is quoted as saying "never let the facts get in the way of a good story." I'm a firm believer in that theory.

It amazes me all the things I don't know about this computer. There are times that I even wonder how I function. I do know that "you can't get physically sick from a virus on your computer " (unless you haven't backed up your files!) "that cookies " aren't what you eat with milk, and ' back up'.....isn't what cars do when coming out of a parking lot. I'm not exactly sure what "booting" is other than the desire to kick your computer into the next room when it decides not to cooperate, and I'm pretty sure "RAM and ROM" were the twins raised by a she wolf in the legend about the founding of Rome.

Recently, when my friend Melli came to visit, I got a frantic call from my neighbor, Beckie, saying that her computer just crashed. She was in tears and very upset asking for the help of.....Mr. Wonderful, of course. I had a brief prayer with her over the phone, tried to calm her and offered her Melli's help. When I explained the situation to Melli, this is the response I got.

"Becki computer crashes and she called YOU???

"Oh yeah, same to you!" I responded indignantly." She knows I'm a good pray-er , " I said weakly. "Are you coming with me or not? Please, please, please???" I begged.

Moments later, with crisis adverted I was told that some time a "cold boot" such as unplugging the computer from the wall is all that is required.

"Oh, " I said, quietly slipping to the refrigerator to remove my Timberlines," that was easy."

I'm the opposite here...I'm a tech geek, so I love learning all about computers and such :) Since I don't do phones, though, I'm a bad technical support person. I do occasionally go to peoples' houses and work on their computers, though...mostly people from church :)
If I ever come across something that I can't fix, though, I know those prayers of yours go a long way!!
Love you!

The Idiot's Guide To Computers is too complicated.

You have a good blog; Michele sent me this way.

Hey, my hats off to you. I still marvel at the older generation, such as my mom & friends, has noodled through the complicated beast that a computer can be to accomplish blogging, e-mail, podcasting and the sort. For my generation it's not such a leap but for those that grew up with nothing even close to a computer, well, they should be proud.

Cheers,

Such a funny post!! I thought I was pretty computer savvy until I started blogging and found I am sooo computer challenged. For the longest time I kept asking myself, what is a widget?
