This weekend Mr. Wonderful and I saw the movie "Facing the Giants". It's about a Christian school in Georgia that decided that they should be giving God their best effort because with God nothing is impossible.
It started me thinking.....am I giving God my best effort in this attempt to gain control over my weight?
The answer.....no!
Oh, I moan and groan loudly and try to ride the wave of healthy eating and lifestyle changes. But deep down in my heart of hearts I haven't been giving my best effort.
I expect God to work despite me! I expect God to clamp a muzzle over my mouth to keep me from over eating . I expect God to make healthy choices so appealing that they will be the clear winner over calorie laden choices. In short I want to reap the benefits without putting in the work that it requires.
I keep looking for the magic pill that will bring me instant success.
There is a hymn called "Am I soldier of the Cross?" The verse I particularly like goes like this:
"Should I be carried to the skies on flowery beds of ease?I don't know about you....but it sounds good to me! I don't like to suffer, sweat, or over extert.
While others fight to win the prize and sail through stormy seas.
I don't like having to put forth great effort for very little results. I'm Lazy and self-indulgent and pretty proud of it!
But all that is behind me now. God deserves my best effort and from now on that's what He will get whether I lose weight or not. So I challenge you to challenge me. Whenever you hear me moan and groan, or make lame excuses I want you to ask me " Yes, but was that your best effort?"
Don't let me weasle out by not anwering the question either.
That's my Monday Morning Quarterback tip for the week

You're on.
Did I ever tell you you are my hero? I'll do it, but I expect the same from you! ;)
Love ya sis!
Okay!! Is that your best effort? You write wonderfully so that is definitely your best effort in writing now to get onto losing that weight!! You just have to put one foot in front of the other. Keep the bad food out of the house!! I know that is hard too because it is hard here also especially with a husband that simply REFUSES to lose weight. He told me that he just likes to eat!! Okay!! I wish that there was a MAGIC PILL!! The line would be so very very long to get that thing!! Just think!! We can all be with you in this and pray that is all that I know how to do!! Prayer works for sure...Love you and Miss you..Sandy
Oh yea! I can DO this! And you can DO this! They don't call it WORKing out for nothing... it IS work. Sweat IS required. (my boss doesn't like me to tell people that... but it's the truth!) Sweat Equity! But the other thing is that you REALLY have to re-adjust your thinking as to what is a good payoff for your efforts! If you lose 1 pound a week - in a year that's 52 pounds! I can almost GUARANTEE that you NEVER gained 52 pounds in one year!!! This weight has crept on ... slowly... maybe 10 or 15 pounds a year.... about a pound a month... So if you can take OFF a pound a week you're taking it off 4 times faster than you put it on!!! And that's GREAT! A one pound loss is NOT "minimal results"... *nods*!
And I demand you find sOMething ELSE to proud of than being lazy and selfindulgent! How about being witty and compassionate?
.... muttering... maybe you need a new name....
You are awesome..Just stumbled onto your blog and Iwanted to let you know I am praying for you. I cant wait to see that movie
Very powerful post, Daisy :) - I will try to remember, that if next time I stop by and I 'hear' you moan, I will remind you that you want to give Him the best effort.
Blessings on your day and thank you for stopping by Laced with Grace today.
