Easter Parade and missed opportunity

Not long ago my blogging friend Baba wrote a Thursday Thirteen about her Easter memories. They included a new Easter outfit complete with white patent leather shoes, white gloves and of course an Easter bonnet complete with ribbons and spring flowers. Being of the same generation , I could relate to all the rituals of spring and the Easter outfit.

I was somewhat surprised and delighted when my very girly New Yorker told me they were going to go to the Easter Parade in New York City. Suzy and Tim love to travel and they go to the most wonderful locations. I get to travel vicariously through their pictures and experiences.

The New York Easter parade is very different from all the otherNew York parades.

" This parade doesn't have any floats or marching bands but it is a spectacle nonetheless. From around the world people come to New York City to participate. Outfits range from elegant to outrageous. From outfits accented with live animals to civil war period costumes and the latest high fashions, there is a little bit of everything for the parade viewer. From 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. the area along Fifth Avenue from 49th to 57th Streets is closed to vehicular traffic, and folks wander the street admiring various Easter Bonnets and Easter outfits. The area around St. Patrick's Cathedral is the ideal place to see the parade." Heather Cross, About: 2007 Easter Parade and Easter Bonnet Festival in New York City.

Here are my Suzy and Tim at the Easter Bonnet Festival. Here what Suzy had to say about the experience:

" I have to say, as silly as I felt walking through Manhattan to get to that parade with my silly daisy hat, when we actually arrived at the parade, I was so glad to even have a hat! I felt so out of place while people gawked at me on the train/subway, but when I was at the parade, having that hat made me feel like I had a private joke with all the other hat people. I would look at another hat person and grin, and that hat person would shoot back an even bigger grin. I felt like I was part of a club or something. Oh what fun.

I can cross another thing off my list now! See Suzy Spin

What surprised me later is when my Blog Buddy Barbara posted this picture of what else...The Easter Bonnet Festival.

I had seen that picture before....from Suzy.

Anybody catching a "light bulb" moment here.?

So I wrote Babara this comment:
"Wow, Barbara, my Suzy has the same picture. Check out her picture...maybe you saw her and didn't even know it! Her Easter Bonnet....had daisies of course!"

Barbara searched her pictures and sure enough.....Here's My Suzy!

Can't miss that hat or the pink polka dot bag.

Tim's picture.....>

So close yet so far away! Who would have ever "Thunk it?" Of course now both Suzy and Barbara are disappointed that they didn't turn around and recognize each other (like they do in the movies!).

Barbara and I have collaborated many times over the phone and she was excited when I mentioned having a "Canadian daughter" as they live near the Canadian border. ( Of course my Canadians live over North Dakota....no where near.)

Hope rose again about a future meeting when I mentioned having a New York daughter....again they live (8 hours away) not close to the Big Apple at all.

Miss Melli.....hat lady extraordinaire .....had this to say "You know... "I think we need a road trip to New York for the Easter Parade next year! I'm pretty sure I can design some hats worthy of that parade!!!"

So are you up for a challenge? Road Trip Anyone? Just a thought!

I wanna go!!!! I cannot believe that these two were THAT close to each other...that is TOOOO funny.

This reminded me of a conversation that I once had with one of my boys...you never know WHO ELSE'S photos you're going to end up in...it's weird to me to think that I might be in someone's photo album as a nameless face...you've proven it may be a GOOD thing to be caught by the camera.

Have a GREAT day!!

:-) Susan
