The Thrill is gone!

This morning found us driving around town looking for various items to take back with us. We found some very unique items to bring back to our friends so they too can enjoy a taste of Canada.

One taste I was not expecting was a taste of Thrills gum. Thrills gum
A purple gum that looks like Chiclets. "Tastes like soap." I should have known better when our daughter asked her dad for a quarter for some gum we just had to try. I noticed that she herself did not take any but insisted that we take a big handful.

Mr. Wonderful never flinched or made faces.....not me! Ugh! It smells like rosewater that is used as a fragrance of bar soap and consequently taste like soap. I should know my mom washed out my mouth with soap many times growing up for talking back to her or using "unlady like language!"

Of course our daughter had a good laugh as I don't have a poker face and certainly reacted to the very strong tasting gum. She did find me a trash can to pitch the revolting stuff and offer to buy me a coke to wash out the taste.

That was one thrill I could have done without!

What's the worst gum flavor you ever chewed?

Why do they sell that stuff then? I mean who wants to chew something that tastes that nasty? Or do the mothers buy it for their children when they have bad words coming out their mouths? Hmm!! YUCK!! Please do not bring any back to Beckie or myself. I will pass OKAY!!?? Sandy

Daisy - I don't remember any awful gum. I've been AWOL for a few days and I must catch up soon. I see you have a whole lot of posts. I can't wait to see what you've been up to.

Ewww....doesn't sound like fun. I don't remember Gum, but I remember a few years back when one of my boys made me taste a candy called "War Heads". It was AWFUL on the outside and if you could last for the inside, then you could get a sweet part in the middle...it was GROSS!! Have a great one!

Thrills is definitely the worst gum I have ever tasted, Daisy. Growing up in Canada I had plenty of the stuff. It is definitely an acquired taste! We also have these awful little candies called "perfume candies." They look like miniature wine gums but they are much harder to chew. They are only barely sweet and they smell and taste like perfume. How we got our toiletries mixed up with our confections, I'll never know! I think we should blame our British heritage. Perhaps these candies are a throwback to a time when there was a serious need to mask the bad breath caused by poor dental care? I'm sorry that you had to try thrills, but they are part of the Canadian experience!

LOL!!!

Try May West cakes. Those are pretty good - honest! We love them and import them whenever we go up there.

The 1/2 moon cakes are good, too.

My favorite is the french pastry from Montreal... There is nothing better!!

Sounds absolutely horrible!!! I can even taste it right now. I can't think of a bad tasting gum right now but I think you win the contest!!!
Have a safe trip home, love you.

UGH! I don't chew gum too often and when I do it's only one of the minty ones. But a couple of years ago, when Harry Potter first became really popular, someone sent my kids some of the Harry Potter Jelly Bellies.... one of the flavors being "vomit"... ugh... yea... I guess kids think this stuff is fun... but honestly I do not know WHY!!! At least ya got a coke out of the deal! LOL! And don't worry Diva... Grandbaby will get even with her for ya!

Safe travels Sweety! You're in my prayers!
