Thursday Thirteen....Prayer

Thirteen Things Lazy Daisy has learned about Prayer

I learned to pray from Christian parents at an early age. Throughout the years I've gotten quite good at it because I've had lots of practice. Prayer doesn't necessarily change my situation but it does change me. The following are 13 things I've learned about prayer.

  1. Say little, pray much.
  2. Pray for people you dislike.
  3. Pray for people who dislike you.
  4. Prayer involves listening to God as well as speaking to Him.
  5. Pray with perseverance and expectancy. (If you pray for rain, take your umbrella!)
  6. There is no such thing as a successful or unsuccessful prayer.
  7. "No" is also an answer.
  8. Become quiet before God in the busiest and noisiest part of your day.
  9. If your prayers don't mean anything to you, they will mean even less to God.
  10. Don't pray for a lighter load. Pray for a stronger back.
  11. Pray as if the task depends solely on God and work as if it depends on you.
  12. Live humbly and pray likewise.
  13. People of God may not talk about their prayer habits, but their lives speak volumes.

FABULOUS Thirteen, my friend! It reminds me ... one of my favorite country music songs right now has the lyrics that go like this...

Sometimes I thank God
For unanswered prayers
Remember when you're talkin'
To the man upstairs
That just because He doesn't answer
Doesn't mean He don't care!
Some of God's greatest gifts are
UNanswered prayers...!

The song is called UNanswered Prayers by Garth Brooks. I LOVE it! It's a GREAT reminder that God ALWAYS knows best, and that sometimes we are just askin' for the wrong thing!!!

I love you Daisy! You inspire me daily!!!

This is such a beautiful list Daisy. Have you read Larry Dorsey's book about the healing power of prayer? He presents some really good evidence about prayer and how it works.

I'll leave you one from the book "Peace Pilgrim"
"Blessed are they who do God's will without asking to see results, for great shall be their recompense."

Thank you for this. You always make me think. It is so true that sometimes God says "No". Too many times we just assume He will answer 'Yes'. We also fail to recognize everyday things as answers to prayer.
My friend, I love ya!
Hope you will stop by for a visit over at my place.

This is a great 13! I always ask God for strength to see me through whatever obstacles I may face. I seek Him out all the time and pray for my family who's far away. Thank you for sharing this.

Mine are up.

Break through the peace within...hold your attention in stillness... Thus begins one of the passages I use in meditation.

I don't pray in the traditional sense but I do with my intention and heart.

Good list.

A beautiful, practical post--with some good reminders.

Thanks for visiting my TT. I think a support group is in order.

"Hello, my name is Norma and I have a book buying habit. . ."

You should really compile all of your thirteens and make them into a life guide. Seriously. I want them all printed so I can carry them around.

That's a wonderful list.

Sometimes god is the only one who will listen.

Hi Daisy,
I so wanted to visit your WW yesterday, but Blogger went loopy on me - then closed for maintenanace. Your 13 was inspiring.
And your WW totally neat. How did you ever think up such a carving for a pumpkin? It ought to be made into a Halloween card ;)
Take care,
Frances

What kind of Father would God be if he answered "yes" to all our "wants"? Even flawed human fathers are wise enough to know this isn't good for their children. When I look back on some of my prayers from childhood and even college.... I shudder to think of where I would be if God had said "yes".
