Saturday Photo Hunt...Cobblestone Road

Becky's Feet on Savannah cobblestone
Originally uploaded by Momma B.

My daughter likes to take pictures of her feet....but in this case the cobblestone streets are very unusual and very hard to walk on. Savannah is a port city and the ships carried cobblestones to balance the ships. They replaced the stones with cotton and other goods and the city fathers used the stones to make streets and roads.

Sounds beautiful, is it a road that can also be driven on or just walked upon?

Where my in-laws live, part of the street down town is bricked. Recently they spent $$$ to redo it & the city was hoping they'd just pave it; but nope; more bricks. It's not a fun street to drive down.

I played for the first time this week too. :-)

Great shot. Very artistic.

I lived outside Savannah...well, really an hour away but in the boonies back in the 80's. It is a beautiful town.

Mine's up.

Great picture. Cobblestone streets are very quaint but NOT easy on the old tootsies!

I love the colors. You should work for the Chamber of Commerce for Savannah. I would love to come see that town -- you do such a great job sharing it with us!

This kind of roads makes it cool. Of course it would be difficult to be walking when wearing heels.
My Photo Hunt is up too.

Interesting photo. Yes cobblestone streets are hard to walk on, ride on etc, but they are very nice to look at aren't they?
