Monday Memory...Spring Fever!

This is Boy Wonder when he was in kindergarden . Boy gets "spring fever" every year and it became most noticable when he started school.

Always a cutie and charmer, he did well in school until spring hit and then.....it was as if his brain left the building. He would stare out the window and be lost in his own little world.

One spring day he brought home a notice that his teacher wanted a conference with us. He assured me that "he hadn't done anything naughty" and he had no idea why she would want to see us.

Mr. Wonderful and I met with the teacher and after telling us what a delightful child Boy Wonder is, stunned us by her next question.

"Are you having marital problems?" she asked.

I was definitely shocked that she would ask and wondered what had prompted the question. "No," we assured her. "Why would you ask?, has Boy said anything that would give you that impression?"

"No," she assured us, "but when a child that has been doing well in school suddenly becomes distracted and doesn't finish his work I have to think that maybe there are problems at home."

Apparently the class was given work to do at their desk. Boy had on a shirt that buttoned and had slipped his big first grade pencil through the top button hole ( it looked like a big bow tie). He was sitting quietly at his desk staring out the window.

His teacher came by his desk and noticed he wasn't working on the assignment. "Boy why aren't you working on your paper?" she asked.

Without even glancing at her he responded, "I ain't gots no pencil!"

Did your kids ever go through "spring fever"? How did you handle the situation?

Every day of their lives :)

They're the kind of kids whose spirit doesn't seem to be contained by the walls of their classroom. Or by much of anything, come to think of it.

I'm looking forward to seeing what others have to say. It's a fine line between following the rules of the world and allowing a child's spirit to break free.

If only the answer were a little simpler.

I love this picture. He looks a lot like you in this particular picture. I can also see that flair for comedy and I am going to be actor one day!! He is just a free spirit then and is still to this day. No wonder he is the way he is and was the way he was that day in school. He just was not into school at that time. Knowing him even the little that I do he wanted to go outside instead of being STUCK inside where there was not much fun going on. Just think and he is all yours, friend!!

Living in a country with only 2 seasons, The dry (summer) and the wet (rainy), I don't really know what spring fever is except for what I have read in some researches I have made.
Poor Mr. Wonder, he must have felt so bad about it.
My Monday Memories is up too.

I tellya, it's been so long since I've had a child that is school age, I really can't recall anything. Thing is....the idea that the teacher had the 'gall' to ask such a stupid question like that makes me wonder if there really WAS a problem. Kids will be kids, and there are days that they go through being just THAT! Heck, even adults are sometimes dreaming and looking out the window when they should be busy doing their job!! Personally, I wouldn't worry about it at all. It's a phase, and I bet my allowance on it that it too will pass in time.

I did a Monday Memory today also.

How cute was he??? Miss Priss is my dreamer. She always was gung ho in the beginning and then somewhere in the middle she started dreaming of all the things she'd rather be doing. She took after her momma. ;)

Now those are 2 sharp lookin kids! And that picture of him as a school boy is adorable!

Mine haven't suffered from spring fever but I recall having a horrid time in school focusing once spring break hit. If I was anywhere near a window, ya lost me.

You have such a nice looking family Daisy. Baseball is a great sport to share with family members.

What a sweet memory and photo.

My boy had spring fever all year long, k-12. No parents were happier at graduation than we. The principal was pleased too--to longer see us.

My MM is up. Check the scrolling marquee.
