Monday Memory....Mr. Wonderful

High School Pic - Dad Originally uploaded by peachicken.

Isn't he cute? This is my Mr. Wonderful over 35 years ago. He wasn't my Mr. Wonderful back then.....he was Mr. Shy Awkward Nerd. I met Mr. Shy Awkward Nerd in Sunday School. I had seen him once before and was determined to meet him, so determined that I went to Sunday School after working the night shift. I came early, he was late! I was hoping to sit with him during church, he decided to sing in the choir! I lingered longer after church hoping to run into him, he went directly to his car. Fortunately, he was parked behind my car and we ended up going out to lunch together. He took me out for pizza and I ended up paying for it. The more embarrassed he became the cuter he got. I went home amused and intrigued. He went home and called his mom about this Virginia Beach nurse he had met. His mom told me later that she knew he was smitten right then and there! I met him in March, was engaged by April, and married in July. Slowly over the years, he began to be less shy and awkward. He gained confidence, a measure of success, life experience and three lively active children that knocked off the rough edges of two inexperienced parents. This July will be 33 years. ( and he truly is....My Mr. Wonderful!)

I, too, was determined to catch my husband, and catch him I did...met in November, engaged in January, married in February! :)
My daddy was one of those shy awkward nerds. You would never know it to look at him now...and I would have never taken your Charlie for nerd material! :) He's a good 'un! :)

Who says "you have to know the person long before tying the knot to make the marriage work"? Good memories to share!

Congratulations on your forthcoming 33rd year! We just celebrated our 32nd anniversary last March.

That was a short one. But I don't believe in long engagements. I believe that people in love feel when they really belong to each other. So why wait for a long time. Wow! 33 years and mine was only 30. Happy Anniversary on July.`

awww...how cute it that?!! And what I love is how obviously IN LOVE you still are!!

We had a short courtship, my Mr. Wonderful and I as well. We met when he critiqued something I'd written for a Christian group. We lived in different cities, so after becoming friends and talking and emailing for a month he came to visit me in June and FIREWORKS!! (The first thing he did when he saw me at the airport was give me a kiss:) Then I visited him in July, He came back to me in August and in October he moved to my town...and November 7th we were married!! Some of my friends who are still single say love doesn't happen fast...and I say, oh, it can happen quite fast if it's the RIGHT one!!;)

Short and sharp. Just like a scene in a movie, but a real-life beautiful event still unfolding. Nice.
