Charlie and I are both home today and he has a bad cold. Both of these events are unusual, but the day gets even better. I casually glanced through a Reader's Digest (which I hardly ever do) and I came across this article that really touched my spirit.
" In RD's, November 2002 issue, we told the story of Debi Fairs-Cifelli, who established Garden of Angels cemetery, east of Los Angeles, for babies discarded in Dumpsters or tossed along highways. Faris-Cifelli gave each child a name and a proper burial. "Even if they were here for a moment, "she says, "they were here for a purpose." readers sent donations to help her crusade for safe-haven laws that protect new mothers who don't want to keep their babies. These laws encourage mothers to leave their babies at hospitals or other safe places instead of abandoning them.
Last December, Faris-Cifelli and her husband reaped the ultimate donation-they won Californians $27 MILLION LOTTERY. While they plan to help their own children with education expenses and down payments on houses, the bulk of the winning will go to a college scholarship foundation. They will give away 140 scholarships, each in the name of a baby buried in the garden (currently, there are 70). Says Faris-Cifelli, "Everyone keeps asking what expensive things we are going to buy when all we can think of is the good this money can do."
I don't know about you. But this article really gave me a lift today. I love nothing better than being in "My nest", with those I love, sitting at my desk, looking out the window thinking "Could life be any better than this?"
