New Year's Day 2005

" And now let us believe in the new year that is given us- new, untouched, full of things that have never been." Rainer Maria Rilke

That's the quote on my motivational calendar for today.....brand new year 2005!

It's a quite day here at the Nest. The usual morning of ritual of Charlie getting up early, feeding the animals and taking Spot out, turning up the heat to make the nest warm and cozy and then the best part of the day.....the morning cup of coffee brought to the bedside just the way I like it and a good morning kiss! Could life be any better than this?

There is something very comforting in rituals....the familiarity, the intimacy, even the ebb and flow of routine. Knowing what comes next and being comfortable in that knowledge. Charlie and I have several rituals that come so automatically that we think it's just a part of the rhythm in the dance of life.

I like knowing that the "Gas Fairy" comes and fills my car so that there is always fuel in the tank. That ritual has almost gotten me in trouble in the past , (especially when the gas fairy was out of town or distracted) as I almost never check the gas guage! I do know how to put gas in the car but doubt that I have had to more than 10 times in my life! Way to go....Gas Fairy!

The ritual for the day.....the first day of the New Year is always the same.....put away the Christmas decorations and clean the house. Spend the day in reflection of the past year and make new goals for the coming year. Will those goals be met this year? Only time will tell but "if you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail!"

With written goals I can always make mid course corrections! I'll post them later!

Speaking of decorations.....Suzy did my "cubby" this year and I am reluctant to take it down....it may last till spring! I may change the bear's sweater so it looks like a Valentine!
