Oreo has been a full-fledged member of our small pact for one year now. He started out as a foster pup but instantly worked his way into our hearts after the first night.
He came to us tired, stressed, and perpetually hungry from trying to find scraps on the street. He thought our trash cans were his feeding dish and promptly knocked them over, looking for hidden morsels. (That behavior was immediately discouraged and now all our indoor trash cans have lids.)
We were surprised at his first vet check that he was much older than what we thought, and his perpetual cough soon turned into congestive heart failure. Knowing he was ours and on borrowed time we threw ourselves into his care and feeding. He eats better than we do. He is currently thriving on love, attention, and good food. We are his retirement plan and hospice care, and it is a privilege to be loved by him and trusted by such a noble loving dog.
