Today is my birthday. I am 71 and glad to still be around to celebrate. Last year was a hard birthday. First, there was the age thing that freaked me out. A new decade and 70 always sounded old to me (especially when I was in my 40's.) After getting over the shock, my body decided to rebel and I had my first attack of diverticulitis. I got sick away from home which is never fun. We cut our trip short and drove back to Tennessee. Poor Charlie was so concerned and we were both very glad to be back home.
I had a happy surprise. I got a beautiful arrangement of flowers for Becky and Anne in Canada. The card read, "Wish we could have sent ourselves instead of flowers." It also featured a Happy Birthday helium-filled balloon. We had a video chat later that evening. I was glad to see their faces and catch up on what they are doing. Anne told us about school and her artwork. She is the smartest kid in her class and her favorite subject is math.
Suzy, Tim, and the boys came over for Pizza and birthday cake. Suzy made my favorite Spice cake with maple frosting. It was lip-smacking good. I had plenty of help blowing out my candles. Thankfully there weren't 71 candles or we might have had to call the fire department. She also brought me a very pretty red succulent cluster in a beautiful white country light fixture. I love it. Now to try to keep it alive.
I also got a video of three very special girls from Texas singing the Happy Birthday song to dear Diva. It made my heart smile and miss them very much.
It was a very nice day with several calls from friends and many Happy Birthday greetings from Facebook friends. I am very happy and spoiled Diva.
I can hardly wait till tomorrow.
