Our sweet dog Lady left this earth today. She woke up with no use in her back legs. She wouldn't eat or drink. Charlie took her to the vet while I was with the boys helping with homeschooling. She was x-rayed and they discovered tumors in her spine. The only compassionate thing to do was to let her go. Charlie stayed with her and held her while they sedated her and stroke and petted her telling her what a special gift she had been to us. She died knowing she was loved and in the arms of her Alpha Dog Dad. She has been declining for over a month now but we hoped it was arthritis and had put gripper pads on the steps and even ordered a ramp to help her get in and out of the car without injuring her by trying to pick her up.
The hardest part of letting her go is coming home to an empty house without her coming to greet us. Our routines were scheduled around her. She loved us unconditionally and was always ready to cuddle or go exploring the neighborhood.
Henry saw me crying after Poppa called me to tell me she was dead. He cried with me and looked at pictures of Lady with the family members. He was so sweet. We will miss her forever but with sweet memories.
It was really hard to tell Andy and Rachel. Rachel rescued Lady years ago. She's been living with us because life with 3 little girls and a dog while trying to show and sell your house was just a little too much. We were more than willing to take her in. She has certainly been a blessing to us especially during covid isolation. She makes us get up and walk her around the neighborhood.
Gone but never forgotten.
