A letter to my son on his birthday.
Dear Andy,
Happy Birthday to my own super hero son. I've watched you grow as a little boy watching your favorite super heroes on TV. You watched Superman, Batman, G.I. Joes, Captain America and Spiderman. Now that you are a grown man I salute you as a super man.
Here are just a few of the characteristics you share with your favorite heroes.
Kindness.....all super heroes are kinder than necessary (especially to their moms after they have been hit by little old ladies driving Buicks!)
Generosity ...you've always been very careful with your finances, but you always come through with the most thoughtful gifts, even ones that cost you time, money and imagination. I love the fact you dressed up as an Indian for Oscar's cowboy birthday party. You are generous with your time and I love that you babysit with Rachel for your nephews.
Skill....your best skill is your personal charm and charisma. You charm your friends and you make every one feel like you are there just for them.
Intelligence....I'm so proud of you for pursuing your education on your own and that you are reading much more. I love that you you are interested in learning a foreign language too.
Honesty.....you are honest and trustworthy. You are genuine and authentic.
Risk Taking...I love that you found the girl of your dreams through taking a risk and putting yourself out there for possible rejection.
Courage....I admire that you picked up your life in Georgia and moved to New York not knowing anyone, to pursue your dreams.
Strength...what you lack in physical strength you make up for in character. You have the strength of your convictions as well as a strong sense of humor.
Integrity....you have a strong moral code and above all are a gentleman.
Patriotic ....You love your country and bleed red, white, and blue!
I love that your old dad is still one of your heroes and that you continue to grow in your faith. I loved you as a little boy, a rowdy teenager, a struggling college student, and now as a grown man. I look forward to see you as a dashing groom and one day a super hero to your own boys. I'm proud of you Son.
