The last month literally flew by.... ever since Thanksgiving, my life has been somewhat of a blur. We knew we had to get several projects done early since they needed to be mailed out. So, with "to-do list" in hand I raced for the finish line. To my great surprise and total amazement of Mr. Wonderful, we successfully got out our Christmas Newsletter, the Mission's Christmas Newsletter, and Donor letter for December, and January as well as doing newsletters for two of the staff members and my mom's annual Christmas letter. In between those publications we sent out our Christmas boxes to our kids, grands, family, and supporters.
All this was accomplished early in December, so I actually had time to concentrate on decorating the house for Christmas. We aren't usually home for Christmas so Mr. Wonderful would like to just skip the decorating part since it involves dragging down heavy boxes from the attic.
Our Christmas tree is fake and small, so we display it on our cedar chest. We have years and years of decorations, but I only put on our very favorite one. The snow elf creature on the top of the tree by the star is a favorite of mine. When my kids were teens, this poor tormented snowman was usually hidden somewhere in the house in the most peculiar places. I found him hung (hang man style) in the cord to the blinds with a suicide note attached once, another time he was found in the freezer also accompanied by a note that said he was ""just chilling' with the ice cubes". It became a game to find the snowman and rescue him from his tormentors.
Below the snowman is a Charlie Brown ornament. Mr. Wonderful's grandmother used to call him Charlie Brown, so it brings back pleasant memories of his childhood.
The middle of our tree has Christmas pictures of our grandson Oscar and granddaughter Emma. Emma will be four in January so of course there are more on the tree of her.
On the entry table by the front door are all my Santas. Through the years several dear friends have hand-painted gourds to look like the jolly old fellow so seeing them reminds me of the time, thought, and care that it took to create them.
Over the refrigerator is a modified grouping of some of my favorite snow people. This grouping will stay up during the winter months.
This girl loves lights, and I finally got them this year (after living in my house for the last seven years). Mr. Wonderful put white lights around the porch and hung our Moravian Star. He also lit up two snowmen I have on the porch as well as a small Christmas tree with the Nativity scene below it. He put up hooks to hold the lights so it will be easier to put them up next year.
I really enjoy my little nest. It was great fun to rush home, put on the lights and Christmas music, and just relax. Of course, it all went back into the box shortly after Christmas so we could start the year off fresh and new.
What is your favorite Christmas decoration?

I so love all of your santas and snowmen, so adorable! I used to have a lot of snowmen but have given most of them away, just kept a couple of favourites. I had to giggle at what that snowman on your tree has gone through, through the years, something my boys would have done! lol Your house looks so welcoming with all the lights:-) My favourite Christmas decorations have got to be my vintage ornaments that I decorate the tree with.
Hope 2011 has started well for you my friend. xoxo
