Hershey Antique Car Museum

Yep that's me in front of the the Hershey Kissmobile. (Talk about a sweet ride!) While Mr. Wonderful and I were coming home from New York we stopped at the Antique Car Museum in Hershey. Mr. Wonderful tells me that this is one of the best in the US so we took the time to go through it. Personally, I thought I would be totally bored but I was delightfully surprised.

Bear in mind gentle reader, that Mr. Wonderful loves cars and is very knowledgeable about every one and loves to impart this knowledge to anyone who will listen (namely me!)

This is an 1895 Benton Harbor built to compete in the Chicago Times-Herald Race of 1895 with a top speed of 23 mph.

This may be the first vehicle in America built from scratch as an automobile as opposed to construction on a modified horse drawn carriage.

Seriously, how cool is this? (and it only got better as we toured!) The cars are totally restored and displayed with gorgeous back drops.

As you go through the museum the cars are set in a backdrop of where you would have probably seen them. This particular scene is a local gas station with the gas pumps and garage in the back ground. I loved this convertible, and especially the big white wall tires.

These 50's cars were posed at a drive in movie . They even had the speakers that attached to the car windows. This brought back some familiar outings as a kid when my folks would load us up in the backseat in our pajamas and go to the drive in. We would fall asleep some time before the double feature ended and my dad would carry us from the car up to bed. I don't remember how any of those movies ended.

These Woodies had a back drop of camping in the mountains or going on a picnic. Our first van was a woody so this also brought warm fuzzy memories.

The antique car museum also houses the buses of the All American Girls Baseball League. They had lots of memorabilia from the League and even some of the uniforms. We had a great time and highly recommend it even if you aren't really into cars.

I learned more about antiques cars than I even wanted to know but it was a fun way to spend the afternoon. They have a fabulous gift store too. This is my sweetie next to the gas pumps. It's my favorite picture. Did I mention that Mr. Wonderful always keeps my car filled? I thought it was the gas fairies till he went out of the country and I almost ran out of gas.

I would so love to visit this car museum...like you I'm not much into cars but when it comes to a delightful museum like this one, I love it!! Oh yes, I too remember the speakers you would hang on the window of the car at the Drive In:-) I really like the way they set up the cars. No doubt Mr. Wonderful was in his glory:-) Oh and I want a ride on that Kissmobile! hehe xoxo
