What's eating you....

This girl loves cake!
We recently celebrated Oz's first birthday, and this was his birthday cake. He would have preferred broccoli or vanilla custard. He did taste it and had some frosting smeared on his face for the occasion.

Suzy and I decided that cake should not be wasted (or go to the waist) so here's our tribute to cake. It was carrot cake so technically it's a vegetable, right? Carrots are good for night blindness so it's technically medicine.

This is a John Deere motor used to churn delicious homemade ice cream at the Virginia Mennonite Relief Sale last weekend. Mr. Wonderful and I had never gone before so we dutifully ATE our way around the fairgrounds. He had food from Laos which was really good and enough for both of us (though he ate most of it!) We brought home Brunswick Stew (my favorite). We did go wandering through the baked goods looking for Strawberry Rhubarb pie or Shoe Fly Pie but had to settle for Strawberry pie instead. We had orange pineapple homemade ice cream. Our one scoop was the size of 4 regular scoops.

The Relief Sale was held at the Fair Grounds.
We parked in the "Cow" Section. After eating our way around the fairgrounds, we decided that to really do the Mennonite Cooks justice you probably needed 4 stomachs like a cow.

Daisyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy....there you are!!!! I was just about ready to send a tall, dark, handsome Mountie to go look for you....oh, you still want me to send him?? hehe So good to see you blogging again my friend, missed you so much.

I've never tasted Greek food but I have heard how delicious it is. As long as it's not spicy, I'd probably try it! lol Wish I could have been there to help eat Oz's birthday cake, it sure looked yummy!!

You've got me curious as to what Brunswick Stew is so I'll have to google it:-) Just like Shoe Fly Pie, heard of it but never tasted it or even seen what it looks like. I know, I'm soooo deprived! hehe xoxo

LOL!!! Soooooooo true! Those Mennonite women KNOW how to cook! Yes they do! Man, I haven't had a piece of Rhubarb Pie since I was about 17 years old! I'm surprised I can even remember it! But it was that good!

Hard to believe that little peanut is already a year old! And what is this? HIS birthday is mentioned - but NO picture of him??? How in the WORLD did that happen Diva??? You're going to lose your Grandma card if you're not caaaaaarrrreful!

There you are, Missy!! I'm so glad to see you. I'd wondered if some wild tribe had grabbed the missionaries and you had wound up in a pot of soup. Glad to know you were eating soup and other good stuff. I have a link to Mennonite Girls Can Cook on my blog and they truly can cook very well.

I have to tell you this though, our state fair is going on in Dallas and they always have something weird fried up to sell.
Well, this year it is FRIED BUTTER! That is something to make Paula Dean's heart go pitty pat for sure. It didn't even phase me at all to not have any. We haven't been to the Fair in years. Seems like the Lutheran Church down the way and around the corner has a fall festival about now. I've done kid identifications for them before. Glad to see you back and I'm resting from the reunion. I'm gunna start tomorrow for sure. Today there was too much to get done. You ever have that problem? :)

I love greek food...OK some of it. I have to say everytime I see these "deep fried" twinkies, oreos and such I want to have some...just to taste. I have never done it though.

Hugs,

Susan
